GoingWild

Bengal Tiger and Bandhavgarh National Park, a match made in heaven.

Bandhavgarh National Park

The Bandhavgarh National Park is one of the most famous places in the world for people who wish to see Bengal Tigers in the wild. Bandhavgarh National Park has been in the forefront when it comes to sightings of Bengal Tigers in the wild and this has been happening over the past few decades. Situated in central India this place is simply legendary. The Bandhavgarh National Park used to be the hunting reserve for the then Maharajas of Rewa and later it became a wildlife reserve with the primary target of protecting the Bengal Tigers. The beautiful landscape of Bandhavgarh National Park especially the Tala zone and the perfect habitat this place harbours, has facilitated the place in becoming a safe and flourishing haven for Bengal Tigers. Bandhavgarh National Park lies in the Umaria sandstone belt and thus is primarily sandstone rich. Sandstone, being a porous rock allows rain water to percolate easily and get stored inside so that it can form perennial streams. The flora of Bandhavgarh National Park is mainly Sal trees and Bamboo thickets along with lush meadows. All these things when combined together create a perfect habitat for scores of wildlife species with the Bengal Tiger being the apex predator of this forest.
