Two mega biodiverse realms merge at the northeastern plateau region at Ladakh; where the mesmerizing oriental bird fauna shares the land with Palearctic east-European bird fauna. Tibetan Snowcocks vs Twite, European Goldfinch vs Himalayan White-browed Rosefinch, or Goldcrest vs Lemon-rumped Warbler can be found in the same juniper thicket. Such is Ladakh where rare mammals Tibetan Wolves, Tibetan Fox, multiple goat antelope species roam in the vast Tibetan plateau.
To cover most of the target bird and mammalian species, one must spend at least ten days and this place should be birded twice a year; once in summer between June to August and secondly between December to February. In summer most of the breeding birds can be found at the plateau - Black-necked Crane, Upland Buzzard, Bearded Vultures along with several other species from finches and allies. Winter birding is tough for general bird watchers, however, if you target species like Long-earded Owl along with resident species, then winter is best. But winter birding is tougher in general than summer birding at the Tibetan Plateau of Ladakh.
Birds like Groundpeckers, Snowfinches, Mountainfinches, Carpodacus Rosefinches can be found throughout the year. Colorful Tit warbler - White-browed Tit Warbler is a magnificent treat for the eyes. Do experience more, when you join this once in a lifetime birding experience!

Important steps to follow
1.Picking up our guests from their respective locations such as Leh airport (at or anywhere near these locations, as told to us by our guests).
2.A quick introduction followed by KNOW YOUR MENTOR sessions respectively. Interacting with each other is the most important part of this stint.
3.Embarking on the journey together and working as a team.
Day-Wise Summary
- Day 1: Birdwatchers arrive at Leh Airport for the Ladakh birding tour and meet with the naturalist for this birding tour excursion. Thereafter the participants would be transferred to the hotel. For the entire day, it is advised to take a rest. So consider this day as an acclimatization day and get accustomed to the weather. In the afternoon, you can try balcony birding from your hotel campus. Overnight in Leh.
- Day 2: For the first half of the day we cover local birding in the Shey-Thiksay-Stakna-Stok complex around Leh and after lunch, we drive to Hemis which is just an hour's drive from Leh (40 km). We go out for an afternoon birding session at Hemis and check-in at the hotel in the evening (after birding). Overnight in Hemis National Park.
- Day 3: Like the previous day, today also we start early morning by 6 AM and drive for Tso Pangong (200 km) via Chang La and we would do birding on the way. Please note that though the direct drive would take only 5 hours, we would do birding on the way and we will check-in at the hotel at Tso Pangong in the afternoon only. In the afternoon session, we will spend in the lake region. Overnight in Tso Pangong.
- Day 4: In the early morning till breakfast, we spend around the lake region at Tso Pangong and thereafter move out from there and continue birding on the way. Like the previous day, we will reach Hanle (160 km) in the afternoon only, though a direct drive would require 4 hours only. Overnight in Hanle.
- Day 5: Hanle is the southernmost and remotest part of this entire birding trip. Today we would do morning birding in the Hanle area. Post breakfast around 10 AM, we move out and drive for Tso Kar with birding on the way (150 km). We reach Tso Kar by noon and an afternoon bird walk along the lake would be productive. Overnight in Tso Kar.
- Day 6: In the morning, we spend 3-4 hours birding along the shore of the lake. We return back to camp for lunch and take rest for some hours and would do another afternoon birding session beside Tso Kar. Overnight in Tso Kar.
- Day 7: Between 6 AM to 9-9:30 AM in the morning for the half-day we would extensively cover Tso Kar and drive back to Leh (150 km) in the afternoon. If the time permits, we may cover marshy areas in the afternoon. Please note that we would check-in at the hotel in the evening only. Overnight in Leh.
- Day 8 and 9: For the entire day we explore the Khardungla Hunder Diskit area and return back to Leh in the evening. Overnight at Leh.
- Day 10: Departure from Leh hotel after breakfast and transfer back to Leh Airport.
- Tour cost per participant is Rs 68,990/- only for Indian Nationals.
This is an indicative cost which might increase if the forest administrative charges are increased.
Tour cost includes:
- Accommodation in hotels on twin sharing basis
- All meals as per the itinerary
- All surface transfer in SUVs as per the itinerary
- All forest entry fee, Inner Line Permit fee, guide charges etc.
- Service of a dedicated wildlife photographer and naturalist for the entire tour
