Magical land and mythical wonders!

Manas National Park is situated in the state of Assam and is spread across two countries, India and Bhutan. In Bhutan it is called Royal Manas National Park. Manas National Park is two and half hours drive from Guwahati, which has an international airport and is a major railhead in the north-east of India. After going through a turmoil due to the Bodo unrest in past, now this forest is slowly becoming famous for the sightings of Big Five, namely Bengal Tiger, Indian Rhinoceros, Asian Elephant, Wild Buffalo and Swamp Deer. However, this forest, which is a mix of grassland and woodland, has more surprises for the visitors in the form of Melanistic Leopard (Black Panther), Clouded Leopard, Binturong and Himalayan Serow. The other attractive mammal species are Leopard (normal), Wild Dog, Pygmy Hog, Hog Badger, Smooth-coated Otter, Himalayan Black Bear, Capped Langur, Golden Langur, etc. Manas National Park has more than 500 bird species and few of the star attractions Bengal Florican, Slender-billed Babbler, Swamp Francolin, White-bellied Heron, Silver-breasted Broadbill, Black-breasted Parrotbill, etc. Tokay Gekos are seen and heard frequently in this forest.

Manas is open round the year for the tourists, though many parts become inaccessible during the monsoon. October to May is the best time to visit this national park. The entire 1000+ sqkm of Manas National Park is open for tourism and is divided into three ranges, namely Bansbari, Bhuyanpara and Panbari. Full day and half day open-top Gypsy safaris are available for the tourists. Interested wildlifers can also opt for a rafting session in the Beki (Manas) river. Various accommodation options are available outside the forest, near the Bansbari entry gate. Limited stay options are available near Bhuyanpara and Panbari entry gate. Mathanguri forest rest house, beside the Beki river, is deep inside the forest of Bansbari range and is a hot favorite for the wildlife enthusiasts.
